When we think of historical political scandals, Watergate immediately comes to mind. The Watergate scandal (Washington DC, 1972) is the gold standard of government malfeasance—a tale of break-ins, secret tapes, midnight phone calls, and a president who famously declared, “I am not a crook” before crashing down from the highest office in the land.

Yet, nearly four decades later and hundreds of miles away, a different kind of scandal unfolded in the state-run forensic labs of Massachusetts – early 2010s. Featuring chemists like Annie Dookhan and Sonja Farak, the Massachusetts forensic lab scandals resulted in the dismissal of tens of thousands of wrongful drug convictions.

A break-in. A cover-up. And an infamous president – Richard Nixon – who thought he could get away with it. The Watergate scandal wasn’t just a political scandal — it was a high-stakes game of power, paranoia, and deception that shook the nation to its core. But who was really pulling the strings, and how close did they come to getting away with it?
